MOOD

We are full swing into Autumn here in Australia, and despite the inevitable head cold that comes with the transition to crisper days, there’s something about a seasonal shift that reignites creativity and gives permission to celebrate the indoors, and to savour our daily rituals. For me, it’s throwing on a favourite podcast, a cosy jumper, and choosing a sunny spot at home to enjoy a coffee. A game-changer for my mood and how the rest of my day tends to unfold.

It is also seasonal change that shines a light on our homes and the importance of creating a sanctuary to live in more than ever. One of the larger shifts in focus happens in these moodier months when we tend to favour the indoors thanks to the cooler weather and shorter days. Making considered decisions around styling our homes when it comes to decor, soft furnishings, and furniture pieces, can shift your entire mood and create that cosy and calming feeling we all want to be wrapped up in at the end of a tiresome or cold day.

My top tips for creating a cosy sanctuary:

  • Use warm mood lighting such as candles, smaller lamps and floor lamps (choose bulbs that are warmer)

  • Introduce material finishes and soft furnishings with earthy undertones

  • Allow for space to practice daily rituals; a reading nook, a warm and sunny kitchen corner for baking, a floral moment on the dining table, a layering of textures and tone through cushions and throws.
