June Edit

Winter brings with it a slew of childhood memories from growing up on the farm. Frosty mornings and the crackle of grass underfoot, open fireplaces and gathering wood with Mum and Dad, racing to the living room after a bath to warm up by the fire in woolly singlets, hot milos, crisp and clear country air, low sun over the hills, Trækul and Fudge - our pet cats - taking up residence under the duvet covers.

Winters look a little bit different these days… for one, I now live in Sydney, and with that - a slightly warmer climate. I also don’t wake up to the beautiful farm with it’s open fireplaces and rolling hills lit-up by the winter sun. But the promise of a cosy night in, and the fresh coastal air still brings a deep sense of comfort and restorative qualities to my day-to-day that I’m thankful for.

Winter comforts look different for everyone. For me, it’s an ideal night at home… the candles are lit, the lights are dimmed, the greats (Etta James, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, and Frank Sinatra) are serenading me, a beautiful bottle of wine is being cracked, and I’m sinking into the couch for a night of good conversation. It’s the dialogue of chosen pieces in my space, the sentiment of - and connectivity to - these pieces that brings about that feeling of comfort. Choosing what we bring into our space is important when it comes to mood, relaxation, and the feeling of being at ease. A home curated with intention is one that invites in and encourages indulgence, romance, and a wonderful sense of calm.

With that said, my focus this Winter is to really fine tune those little details in my life… cutting down on what isn’t making me feel good when it comes to my routine, and also editing my home space to really align with what I love from a style and connectivity perspective, ensuring it feels harmonious and like a big hug when I’m in it. As a part of this, I’ve been searching for a couple of key pieces for the home that we’ve been missing and that would really create a positive shift in how we feel in our space (hello soft blinds and curtains).

I love the hunt… for treasures that tell a story, designs that make me feel something, pieces I feel connected to, colours that make me feel at ease. Something that will be taking up a more significant presence in my work, and as a secondary arm of ‘Rikke’s Space’ very soon…

Until then, I’ve curated a selection of items I’ve stumbled across (and been sidetracked by!) on my travels that might bring you a little bit of joy and comfort this Winter. I’ve also included an unlinked item that’s a little hint for what’s to come… stay tuned.
