TIPS & TRICKS FOR STYLING BRANCHES

  1. Start by choosing a vessel that has an interesting quality to it e.g. textural elements, handmade, vintage, an unique shape.

  2. When choosing the branch, look for movement, sculptural elements, and something that makes you go “wow”. I tend to gravitate towards oversized branches for the wow-factor, which can be easily layered with other decor items for effect, e.g. on a console in front of a mirror or a large piece of artwork. In this particular instance (as pictured above), I stumbled upon a much smaller branch in the park, but it worked beautifully on a small side table to add visual interest to one of my nooks at home.

  3. Avoid creating a perfectly symmetrical arrangement. Imperfectly perfect is always the way to go. This can be achieved by arranging the branches you have at a different angle in the vase, or choosing something which naturally curves outward.

  4. Style stem by stem in order to achieve a sculptural look. Add the branches in one by one, taking a step back each time to see what it looks like and finesse.

  5. Less is more. Try not to ‘overcrowd’ the vase - and trim the bottoms of the branches of any excess leaves/twigs so they can be positioned easily.
