RECIPE: VANILLA POACHED PEARS

 
 

Ingredients

4 - 5 bosc pears, cores removed, peeled and sliced in halves

4 cups water

1 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla

2 tsp cinnamon / to taste

1 cinnamon stick

1 star anise

Squeeze of lemon or orange & peel

Method

Peel pears and place in and place in a large pot with the water. Add the sugar, vanilla, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Bring to the boil, then let simmer for around 20 minutes or until a fork slides easily back out of the pears. Remove the pears and place into a separate bowl to cool. Simmer the liquid until it turns syrupy.

Serve with a small squeeze of lemon/orange, a sprinkle of cinnamon, a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
